The Waterloo Region Habitat affiliate was established in 1988 and received charitable status a year later. Since then, the organization has consistently been regarded as a leader in the provision of decent, affordable housing throughout the community. Indeed, in just over 20 years, HFHWR has successfully built and/or renovated over 90 homes for hard-working and deserving families.
In 2006, HFHWR set off in a new direction with the start of its very first condominium project, a 19-unit townhome development located on Cherry Street in downtown Kitchener. This project was substantially completed in 2009. In 2010, HFHWR will begin work on a new, 16-unit townhouse condominium project on Howe Drive in Kitchener.
Multi-family dwellings will continue to become an increasingly prominent feature in HFHWR's future building plans. Faced with rising land prices and escalating property values, HFHWR has adapted and will continue to evolve. Yet in spite of these changes, HFHWR remains committed to assisting low-income families, and to partnering with these families to extend the offer of homeownership that is decent and affordable.
